about

"Bocuma’s new fantastical album Orphans of the Sky completely captivates my imagination, stimulates my emotions, and hypnotizes my conscious. However there are other reasons why Orphans of the Sky has been consuming my senses these past few days. The melodies throughout are extremely powerful, the synth work is full of complex textures that interconnect and flow rhythmically, often by pulsing. The variety is also quite impressive. It’s almost like a long and beautiful open to interpretation, story."

"This cinematic twenty one track release is Bocuma’s ode to the animation originally titled ‘Orphans of the Sky’ which originally aired
in 1978 on RTE2 as a test screening before the channel launched. With that being the case not many people were able to see the short 13 minute animation that only survives to this day through these stills featured below. Fans of avant garde electronica are sure to fall in love with Bocuma as you get a little introduction to his style with ‘Lonesome Shadows’. It’s a great introduction to the far out computerized soundscapes he has put together on ‘Orphans of the Sky’. Before this release we were unfamiliar with the work Bocuma, who comes to us from Ireland with this unique blend of far out electronica."

"Categorised as electronic, chill wave, ambient and down tempo, it is all of those things, and the artwork places you in an alternative world, greatly adding to the experience of travelling through Orphans of the Sky's 21 tracks. 'Solitary Experiment' is a gripping track, what you'd get if you crossed early Massive Attack with late Radiohead with the added ingredient of almost therapeutic timing in the beat. Other songs I enjoyed were 'Recalled To Life', like early experimental electronica from the late 70's, along the lines of Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygene, 'Chronos' a spacey and atmospheric old school number and finally 'Revolt 86', gritty and almost edging toward hip-hop beats, an 80's New York vibe that's aided well by the voice samples."

Influenced by the animation of the same name ‘Orphans of the Sky’ originally aired on RTÉ2 in 1978 as a test screener before the channel was officially launched. Unfortunately not many people got to see (or even remember) it in its original form. To this day nothing has survived from the original 13 minute animation but these 21 stills.

This album came together with the intentions of trying to recreate the vibe and feel that I can remember hearing from the original score as a kid.

Hope you enjoy and thank you for your support,
